Oxy-fuel cutting generates intense heat, sparks, slag, and embers. In industrial facilities, those ignition sources may interact with equipment, stockpiles, oils, insulation, rubber, debris, vegetation, and nearby operations.

Live or parked heavy equipment near a burn area may present additional fire exposure. Engine compartments, sound insulation, grease accumulations, hydraulic hoses, wiring, rubber components, and accumulated debris may ignite quickly when exposed to sparks or hot slag.

Wind can carry sparks and embers beyond the immediate work location. Stockpiles, unprocessed material, fluff, vegetation, insulation, and neighboring property may be affected if exposures are not properly considered.

Some fires may begin as smoldering material before becoming visible. Burn area housekeeping, fire watch planning, and post-cut observation may all be important considerations.
